Emergency Call Handlers are often the first people we speak to when we are unwell or in danger. Acting calmly, providing reassurance, and making fast but efficient decisions whilst under pressure are key parts of their daily working life.
Emergency Call Handlers are vital roles for our society and the safety and wellbeing of its members. Therefore, it is crucial that the same skills, knowledge and understanding across “blue light” employers exists on a national recognised level.
We are currently working with Ambulance, Police and Fire and Rescue Services from across all four home nations to develop new NOS for Emergency Call Handlers. Commissioned by Skills Development Scotland, these new national standards could be vitally used to inform future qualification or apprenticeship development.
