Helen Shaw

BA (Hons), MA, PhD

Associate Consultant

Helen is a leadership and organisational consultant, coach, educator and researcher who works with individuals, teams and organisations. She uses a systems-psychodynamic approach to work alongside people to find creative ways of approaching working life challenges so that individuals, teams and organisations can thrive.

She supports open and collaborative working cultures where diversity and complexity can be embraced. She led a human rights charity between 1994 and 2015, navigating complex and challenging political and legal milieu to bring about lasting changes to practice and policy.

With Board level experience in both the public and voluntary sector, she integrates a wealth of operational and strategic expertise to her consultancy practice. She is passionate about confronting discrimination and has a longstanding interest in and commitment to creating structures and pathways that enable marginalised people to speak directly to those at the heart of the policymaking and political process.

Helen is an associate consultant Tavistock Consulting and a certified Analytic Network Coach. She is a portfolio manager for Social Care, Leadership and Management in the Department of Education and Training at the Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust and leads the module on consulting and leading organisations for the MA in Consulting and Leading in Organisations: psychodynamic and systemic approaches.

Helen is currently studying for a doctorate focussing the challenges for leadership and governance in supporting organisational learning in the aftermath of contentious deaths.

During the three sessions of coaching with Toby Lindsay, I was able to better identify personal and professional goals and priorities. As a result of the coaching with Toby, I have improved my performance and realise more of my potential. It has been a pleasure to be coached by Toby and I can recommend him to anyone who is looking for professional coaching.

Human Resources and Organisation Development Products Manager
NHS England

Toby is an expert facilitator and coach. He worked with the Trust's "Leading the Way" programme and facilitated Action Learning Sets for several small groups of senior managers and clinicians between February 2015 and June 2016. I have participated in Action Learning Sets previously (on other programmes) but I found Toby's approach and facilitation to be of greater value in securing a deeper level of self-awareness and also in securing honest and open dialogues between all present in the set. I would heartily recommend Toby to anyone.

Duane Passman
Acute Redevelopment Programme Director
West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust

I had three very insightful and productive coaching sessions with Toby. I was able to speak openly about current working issues at ease and felt at the end of the coaching session I had developed a plan to take forward. From the coaching experience, it has enabled me subconsciously to use similar coaching methods when speaking to others about their issues.
